 Sunnydell Flower Farm/ Introduction

How a Flower Farm comes to life.

Growing up, I spent all Spring, Summer and Fall tagging along behind my Mother and Father as the two of them worked their 100 acres of fertile soil. We lived in Madison County, a region in Southeastern Idaho which just happens to have some of the best farmland around.

These farming days were blissful and at the same time filled with an incredible energy that each season of farming would bring to Momsy and Dad and the farm they loved so much.

Summer months were some of the most crucial months and as Momsy and Dad worked the fields, while my imaginary friend (Janie) and I would play along the cattail lined sloughs, skipping rocks or building rafts.

There were times that I just could not enjoy my imaginary play as much as I’d like to because I’d be wondering when I would be called to come and help out. Oh, I liked to help out, especially when it was riding with Dad on the Tractor, but other times helping out was pulling those miserable weeds; thistle, red root, or pigweed. Walking back and forth along those acres of potato rows can seem mighty long for a youngster under 12.

However some of my best thinking took place as I walked back and forth along those dirt rows. Growing and farming was in my DNA and I imagined myself tractor driving and harvesting. Eventually college, marriage and life's journey took me far away from our Idaho farm. I have always felt sad about that departure, however little did I know that my DNA would eventually bring me back to farming.

So, while I weeded away those warm sunny Idaho days, I would day dream about my Mother’s beautiful flower garden

Each colorful, sweet scented bloom that grew in my Mothers flower garden brought to mother nature’s garden an award-winning bouquet. Mom was somewhat of a legend in our quaint Farming community. She was known for her glorious homemade cakes, cookies, fresh baked bread and her award-winning County Fair Flowers.

Momsy was very protective of her flowers. She poured her heart and soul into every single rose, snapdragon, iris, peony, daisy and sweet pea, so when she sent me outside to pick a bouquet for our yellow kitchen table, I was in flower heaven. I took my flower picking assignment very serious. Seems our vase supply was short, but our mason jar stash was not. I filled up the mason jar with white daisies, zinnias, delphiniums and a rose or two for good measure.
